I conducted an interview with Dr Stephany Farah discussing the relationship between our physical and mental health, the changes that our body encounter through the process and our awareness

Interview with Dr Stephany Farah
BA & Phd in Psychology

  • How can your mood affect your body in general?

  • Is there a direct relationship between your mental state & behavior?

  • How can your tone of voice reflect your emotional state?

  • Can someone become aware of his/her body changes during a difficult mental phase?

Insights:

Question 1

  • Mood can significantly affect the body, particularly in terms of stress

  • Stress triggers the "fight or flight" response, leading to various physiological reactions

  • Some of the reactions include increased heart rate, blood flow to limbs, sweating, and mental decline

Question 2

  • Negative affective states or moods can influence attention and learning

  • Negative emotions can impact long-term memory

  • Emotions influence behavior and decision-making

Question 3

  • Tone of voice reflects emotional states through pitch, intonation, and speech characteristics

  • Happiness is often reflected in higher-pitched and faster speech

  • Negative emotional states lead to slower speech and lower confidence in tone

  • Tone of voice is a powerful indicator of emotional well-being

Question 3

  • Awareness of physiological changes during difficult mental phases can be limited

  • People might notice symptoms like clammy hands or faster breathing

Pulsera - Customer Journey Map_edited.jp

I conducted a cultural probe spanning 3 days aimed at gaining deeper insights into individuals experiencing challenges with their mental health. The objective is to examine their behavior, emotions, and actions to enhance our understanding of their experiences.

In this research, we want to know how our target users spend their day, who they encounter, how do they behave around people and what are their struggle.

This probe will cover around 5 participants.

This package will be distributed to each participant in a small bag with labels and instructions and is asked to be given back on the third day.

Insights:

Mood Journal

The daily journals reveal that most participants experienced a wide range of emotions over the three days. They recorded moments of joy, stress, sadness, and relaxation. By examining their journal entries, you can identify common triggers for these emotions, such as work-related stress, social interactions, or personal hobbies.

Sleep Diary

The sleep diaries indicate varying sleep patterns among participants. Some consistently went to bed and woke up at specific times, while others had irregular sleep schedules. Additionally, the quality of sleep varied, with some reporting restful nights and others experiencing disturbances. These findings can help you understand the relationship between sleep and emotional well-being in this age group

Photography

The photos taken by participants provide a visual representation of their emotions and thoughts. Some photos may depict scenes of nature, art, or solitude, reflecting a desire for tranquility. Others may show crowded or urban settings, indicating feelings of stress or social engagement. These images can help you gain insight into how young adults use visual expression to convey their emotions
